UNJournal Lee Sung Jun | President Lee Jae-myung is dispatching a special Presidential delegation to the inauguration of Peru's new President, Mme. Keiko Fujimori.

The Korean government announced on the 24th that it plans to send a Presidential special delegation, led by Rep. Min Hong-Chul, to Peru to attend President Fujimori's inauguration ceremony on the upcoming 28th and to promote friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries in conjunction with the launching of Peru's new government.

The delegation includes Rep. Min Hong-chul, who serves as the Chairman of the Korea-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Association and Reps. Kang Min-guk and Lee Ki-Heon. It is expected that the Korean National Assembly delegation will carry President Lee’s personal letter to President Fujimori.

The special envoy delegation plans to explain the Lee Jae-myung Administration’s governance philosophy and foreign policy to the Peruvian government and deliver a personal letter along with President Lee’s message to further develop the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
In addition, they are to meet with the key figures of the new Peruvian government to discuss the direction of bilateral relations and express the Korean government’s commitment to expanding cooperation in various fields, including politics, diplomacy, economy and security.

The delegation will also attend official events related to the Presidential inauguration, such as a reception for international delegations hosted by Peruvian Foreign Minister Carlos Pareja and an inauguration reception hosted by the new President, H.E. Fujimori.

The dispatch of this special diplomatic delegation is expected to serve as an opportunity to establish a foundation for high-level communication with the new Peruvian government and to elevate the strategic cooperative relationship between the two countries to a new level.

Strengthening security cooperation with South America’s largest defense partner:
Peru is considered Korea’s largest defense cooperation partner in South America. Through this visit, the special envoy delegation plans to convey the Korean government’s determination to further deepen bilateral cooperation in the fields of national defense, defense industry, and security.

In particular, discussions between the two countries are expected to continue on ways to establish a sustainable cooperation framework, including technology cooperation, local production, and logistical support, based on the achievements of existing defense cooperation.

The Korean government plans to expand the foundation for comprehensive cooperation so that defense cooperation with Peru goes beyond simple arms exports to lead to industrial and technological cooperation and the strengthening of national security capabilities.

Also aimed between the two countries is the expansion of economic and supply chain cooperation based on the FTA signed between the two countries.

The special Korean government delegation will also discuss ways to further deepen the economic cooperation between the two countries, which has developed based on the Korea-Peru Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
