UNJournal Lee Sung Jun | On the morning of the July 22, President Lee Jae-myung received credentials from eight newly accreded resident ambassadors to Korea at the Presidential Manshion of Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul and asked them to perform an active role as a bridge to further develop friendly cooperative relations between Korea and all the countries of the world, especially the countries the new ambassadors represented in Korea.
A credential ceremony is an official diplomatic procedure in which the Head of State of the sending country presents credentials to the new ambassador and delivers them to the Head of State of the host country. This event marked the fourth such ceremony held since the launch of the Government of People’s Sovereignty, and it was the first time in four years since 2022 that it was held at Cheong Wa Dae.
The eight ambassadors who presented their credentials on this day were Federico Guerrero Avendaño, Ambassador of El Salvador; Yovani Velázquez Quintero, Ambassador of Colombia; Caimani Oraboon, Ambassador of Laos; Acet Isenali, Ambassador of Kazakhstan; Noel Emmanuel Kaganda, Ambassador of Tanzania; Azam Al-Asphor, Ambassador of Kuwait; Nora Radi Dadut, Ambassador of Nigeria; and Fernando Meirelles de Azevedo Pimenteu, Ambassador of Brazil.
President Lee welcomed the new ambassadors to their posts and expressed his hope that relations between each country and the Republic of Korea would further develop in various fields, including politics, economy, culture, and diplomacy.
He added that the role of the ambassadors is crucial for translating the friendly relations between the two countries into tangible results, and urged them to serve as active bridges to enhance mutual understanding and trust. The newly appointed ambassadors conveyed their respective heads of state's special regards to President Lee and responded by stating that their governments attach great importance to cooperation with the Republic of Korea.
They expressed their intention to actively strive to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields—including trade, investment, infrastructure, key minerals, science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI), culture, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges—during their tenures as ambassadors to Korea.
The new ambassadors also requested that President Lee visit their respective countries at a convenient time to create an opportunity for bilateral relations to take a leap forward.
In particular, Pimenteu, the Brazilian Ambassador to Korea who is honorably accompanying President Lee on his state visit to Brazil, conveyed that Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was very satisfied with his state visit to Korea last February.
Ambassador Pimenteu stated that the Brazilian government is doing its utmost to prepare for President Lee's upcoming visit to Brazil to ensure its success as well. This ceremony for the presentation of credentials is expected to serve as an opportunity for the Republic of Korea to broaden its diplomatic horizons with countries in Latin America, Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and to strengthen substantive cooperation in the fields of economic security, high-tech, resources, and culture.
