Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul exchanged congratulatory letters with Bolivian Foreign Minister Celinda Sosa Lunda on April 25 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Plurinational State of Bolivia. Korea and Bolivia forged diplomatic relations on April 25, 1965.

In his letter, Minister Cho highlighted that the two countries have steadily enhanced bilateral cooperation across various fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1965.

He also recalled the recent visit of his Special Envoy to Bolivia early this month to commemorate not only the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations but also the 200th anniversary of Bolivia’s independence and the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation, and expressed hope for even closer ties in the years ahead.

Jang Myung-soo, former Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Argentina, was appointed as Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister and visited La Paz, Bolivia from April 9 to 11, where he paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of Bolivia and held meetings with the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Development Planning of Bolivia.

Minister Sosa, in her congratulatory letter, conveyed pleasure over the 60th anniversary and underscored the consolidation of the relationship between the two nations based on mutual respect over the past decades.

She expressed her expectation that this milestone would serve as an opportune moment to continue strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
