President Yoon Suk-yeol received a delegation of six members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including U.S. Representative John Moolenaar, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Special Committee on China, who is visiting South Korea, on Aug. 30 and exchanged views on the ROK-U.S. Alliance, U.S.-Japan-Korea cooperation, and regional and international issues.
The President expressed his appreciation for the bipartisan support of the U.S. Congress for the alliance, noting that the interest and support of the U.S. Congress has enabled the alliance to grow into a “global comprehensive strategic alliance” that has supported freedom and prosperity for both countries over the past 70 years.
The President also emphasized that close cooperation between the U.S., South Korea, and Japan, based on shared values, is essential to overcoming complex global crises, and called on the U.S. Congress to continue to support such cooperation in the future.
The delegation noted that the bilateral relationship has strengthened unprecedentedly since President Yoon took office, and credited President Yoon's courage and leadership with bringing the trilateral cooperation to a new era.
The delegation also emphasized that the United States must work more closely than ever with key allies in the Asia-Pacific region, including South Korea, to confront regional and global challenges, including North Korea, and pledged to continue to work to deepen bilateral cooperation in the U.S. Congress.
